Students Learn Engineering, Science, and Math Without Leaving the Fun of Video Games Behind Friday, 01.16.2009, 01:10am (GMT) Students Learn Engineering, Science, and Math Without Leaving the Fun of Video Games Behind. Valparaiso, IN January 1, 2009 -- Mr. Ray Shingler and Mr. Clay Schultz, Founders and Creators of Software Kids, LLC, "a next-generation educational game company," announced today the release of their newest product, entitled Time Engineers (www.timeengineers.com) which teaches engineering, science, and math without leaving the fun of gaming behind. Students travel in a cool time machine to three different time periods and encounter typical engineering problems to be solved in order to build pyramids, irrigate farm land, command a WWII submarine, raise and lower medieval drawbridges, and much more. This innovative product is a teaching gem. Unique and highly interactive, this software provides students with opportunities to learn about how engineering principles have helped people through the ages. The graphics are great and the activities all hands-on and interesting. The goal of this software is to pique an interest in engineering, and it accomplishes that goal with flying colors! Unlike most educational software, Time Engineers™ was designed to be as rich in graphics, content and game-play as most commercial games students play. It was also designed with educators in mind with an easy to understand manual and helpful teaching tools in the form of lesson plans and curriculum guides. Produced in conjunction with the In Ancient Egypt, students experiment with ramps, workers, and the type of stone to build pyramids. During World War II, they help design a submarine or a radar system. During the Middle Ages, students help design a drawbridge and a catapult. In each, there are several factors that students can adjust to be successful. The content, delivered through narration, text and interactive exercises, includes binary numbers, Boolean logic, weirs and water flow, force balance and trajectory. Choosing Childrens Software Magazine honored Time Engineers™ with a Best Pick award. "This innovative product is a teaching gem. Jinny Gudmundsen - Editor, Choosing Children's Software Magazine. Time Engineers™ wins All Star Software award from Children's Technology Review Magazine. "Made in conjunction with the Ray Shingler, award winning interactive designer and co-founder stated, "We're driven by two clear facts: that careers in the sciences are somehow perceived as not as prestigious, lucrative, or cool as other careers, and that the gaming software industry has been unwilling to develop quality educational products to address these issues." To pique female interest, a sequel will also incorporate themes of social impact through engineering in environmental and biomedical fields, and look at contributions made by women and minorities in their fields. "Students are now interested in how they can make the world a better place and do more for humanity." Shingler said. "That is an area we want to focus on with Time Engineers II." Time Engineers software is available for purchase on-line at www.software-kids.com. Please contact Mr. Ray Shingler if you wish additional information about the game.
