As I am going into my Junior year, I wanted to know:

What kinds of software are being used?

What kind of software are people moving towards?

Trying to get a head start on training with these programs.

Thanks.

What subject that you want to go into? Structural, Geotechnical, Transportation..... or environmental engineering???

There are some software program that are widely used: SAP2000 for structural engineering. Geoslope or Plaxis for Geotechnical engineering.....

It seems that geoenvironmental engineering is a very hot area at this moment???

The software industry started in the early 1960s when universities and businesses first began to use computers and to seek out programs to do certain computing tasks. Many of these programs were written in-house by full-time staff programmers. Some were distributed freely between users of a particular machine for no charge. But others were done on a commercial basis, and the very first standalone software firms started in the United States in 1959-1960.

In today’s “free” world, in most online business categories, it is inherently impossible to start a small self-sustaining business and to grow it. This is because in the digital world, advertising, the only real revenue stream, cannot support a small digital business. If businesses were based on the idea that people paid for services then small companies could succeed at a small scale and grow. But it is very hard to charge when your competition is free.
