You can try govt jobs at the shipyard, or head for major companies, like Beoing and Lockheed Martin.My ex works at a shipyard as a mechanical engineer. My friend is also working there as an electrical engineer.

Being a totally biased chemical engineer... I'd definitely say chemical. You get a much wider array of fields to work in, you don't have to spend your life working on tedious government contracting if you don't want to, and you have a lot more opportunity to change the world.
